TAMWORTH CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETY - DIRECTORS WANTED
Tamworth Co-operative Society Limited is looking for new Directors. You don't need to have any particular experience. You do need to be a Member of the Society, interested in us, and be a customer spending at least £750 each year with us. Please note this is a requirement under our Rules and has to be substantiated either by dividend claim or by submitting receipts to the Chief Executive Officer for verification. The spend of £750 then has to be maintained on an annual basis.
Full training will be provided. Further details are available from our Head Office, please contact Mrs. Pat Felton to arrange an appointment with the Chief Executive Officer on 01827 63711 or email ceo@tamworth.coop. The requirements are to attend Board Meetings and to work with the other Board Members on all matters affecting the Society. There are around 13 full Board Meetings in a year – normally on Tuesday evenings. There will be some extra time needed to read papers in advance of Meetings, and Board Members may also serve on additional Sub Committees. A couple of Meetings or Training Sessions are held on Saturdays
The positions are fully detailed in our Rules. All Directors have to sign to agree to a specified code of conduct and to meet Board requirements on reasonable attendance at Meetings. There are only a few straightforward requirements, and as an example these limit the number of Employee Directors and number of Society Pensioners that are eligible. Directors have to have been Members of the Society for at least 2 years. Directors normally serve for a term of 3 years after having been elected. Board nominations are only accepted from November until early January. Appointments take effect from the Annual General Meeting, normally in the following April. If applications exceed the number of vacancies then eligible candidates would go forward into an election at the AGM.
From April 2010 Directors will receive remuneration of £2,632 per annum (paid quarterly) as well as a discount scheme on purchases from the Society outlets. The Chairman and Vice Chairman receive slightly higher amounts. Reasonable travelling expenses are reimbursed, and there can be extra fees payable for participating in sub-committee meetings. Our current Board Members come from all walks of life. Full details on the Society are available at our website www.tamworth.coop.
Why not find out more and arrange to come and talk to us. We are particularly interested in members with an interest in our Society, rather than any particular type of experience. These are demanding and rewarding positions – our Board work closely together as a team. Training is provided, in a "workshop" format with other Directors on a Saturday. Our Directors feel that they get real job satisfaction from playing their part in our community.
