Background

The Tamworth Co-operative Society has always supported the local community. In 1889, for example, we gave cash to a local cottage hospital, the fire brigade, and even to a member who had lost his horse. This tradition of giving has lasted for more than a century and today’s Tamworth Co-op helps the community in many ways.  Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, we held an annual Christmas memorial service for people who have lost loved ones. The Society supports various charities too with ad hoc donations. Our Community Dividend Fund generates a five-figure sum each year which is split between 12 worthy organisations across our trading area.

Tamworth Co-op is helping to rehome Scout group

Polesworth Abbey Scout Group has taken a major step closer to having a purpose-built home, thanks to the Tamworth Co-operative Society. The 24 beavers, 36 cubs and 35 scouts found themselves homeless when the land housing their old scout hut was sold for development. In recent times they have been forced to meet at temporary venues including Nethersole Primary Academy.

Pre-school joy over play area cash gift from the Co-op

A Burton pre school is to enjoy a playground makeover thanks to a donation from the Tamworth Co-op’s Community Dividend Fund. Shoppers at the Stanton Co-op convenience store donated the dividends they earned on their purchases to the Glebe Pre School a mile or so down the road.

Tamworth Co-op and volunteers answer Dordon church’s prayers

The grounds of a North Warwickshire church are set to be given some regular TLC, thanks to community spirited locals and a bumper cheque from the Tamworth Co-op. St Leonard’s Church in Dordon is known for its large grounds, but finding the funds for maintenance has become increasingly challenging. Rev Ann Simmons says her prayers for help have now been answered by the local community. Several people have volunteered their services as gardeners and a timely £581 cheque from the Tamworth Co-operative Society means they will be given the tools they need to maintain the churchyard.

Tamworth Co-op’s ‘grand’ presentation to school

Pupils at a South Derbyshire school are to get an adventure polytunnel in their playground, thanks to a near £1,000 cash injection from their local Tamworth Co-op convenience store. Liz Greenwood, head teacher at Rosliston C E Primary School, says she was extremely surprised when she discovered just how much the school would be receiving from the Tamworth Co-op’s Community Dividend Fund.

Brownhills pupils climb high thanks to Tamworth Co-op cash

A Brownhills school has been celebrating another cash windfall from the Tamworth Co-op which will help it to improve its play facilities. The money will fund special add-ons to the climbing frame which the Society also helped Watling Street Primary School to buy last year. Nearly £300 has
